Limnerslease: The Artists’ Home

12th July 2017, 10:30 - 15:00

Come and join us for a private tour of Watts Gallery and Limnerslease – the house in which George Frederic and Mary Watts lived after moving to Godalming from London in the latter part of the 19th Century.  The house was built by Sir Ernest George, who was one of the great Arts & Crafts movement architects.

To start our day, tea and coffee will be available from 10.30 am. At 11.00 am, we will be introduced to the fascinating history of the Artists’ village, which today exists as a living Centre for visitors and artists alike. Our private, guided tour will take us to the Gallery, which houses collections of the works of G F and Mary as well as a major loan collection of works of William and Evelyn de Morgan.

Following the Gallery, our guide will take us through to Watts Studios at Limnerslease. Watts Gallery Trust has secured the east wing of the house and has transformed it into Watts Studios, a new museum that has reinstated George’s studio and has a dedicated gallery to the work of Mary, also telling the story of the Watts’s’ time in Compton.

Wheelchair access is available to all the sites.

Lunch will be enjoyed at the Centre’s lovely tearoom and will consist of sandwiches and fruit together with Elderflower cordial.

The total cost for the day will be £30.00 per member, including coffee at arrival, entry, guided tours and lunch.
