Return to Mount Browne – FULL

6th October 2017, 09:45 - 13:00

Join us for a fascinating tour of Surrey Police Headquarters at Mount Browne, on the edge of Guildford. This attractive 19th century house was originally called “Oakdene” and belonged to George John Browne, 3rd Marquis of Sligo. It was bought by the Surrey Constabulary in 1947 and was officially opened in 1949 as official headquarters by the Home Secretary, Rt Hon J Chuter – Ede MP.

The building also houses the Surrey Police Museum and staff there will give us an insight into Surrey’s Policing history. Join us for their special opportunity to gain an insight into Police history and explore these historic grounds, which are also used as the training centre for Surrey Police dogs. Due to operational demands, we will not be able to see the police dogs in action.  Unfortunately no cameras will be allowed on the tour.

Parking is difficult so we have secured parking for the day at a local hall, where we will meet for coffee before walking up to Mt Browne. However, please email info@surreyhillssociety.com to let us know if you require a lift up to the museum, if you find walking up hill a problem. It would also help if you could car share.

Following the tour, there is an option for lunch in local pub. Please let us know if you would like to join us for lunch at a local pub.

Booking is essential. If you would like to join us, please book online at the bottom of this page and please indicate in comments whether you will be staying for lunch or not.

For further details and enquiries, please contact info@surreyhillssociety.org.
