Explore Silent Pool and Shere

23rd September 2017, 11:15 - 16:00

Join the Chairman of Surrey Hills Society, Chris Howard, to explore one in the Surrey Hills, by bus. This free, guided walk will start by taking the bus from Guildford to Gomshall, where we will discover some of the stories from the Tales of the Tillingbourne of the most popular leisure spots  – a Heritage Lottery Funded project led by the Surrey Hills AONB team that was completed earlier this year. Learn about the old Tannery industry in Gomshall, before we walk over to Shere to learn about the historic wool industry of this village. We will then walk on to Silent Pool to view Albury Organic Vineyard and Silent Pool Gin, Distillery before heading off to the ancient site of Albury where a paper mill once stood.  We will then return to Shere to take the bus back to Guildford.

Guildford’s Walking Festival is now in its 11th year.  It is run entirely by volunteers and involves many local organisations and charities that all support this event to celebrate the wonderful walks around Guildford and some of the history and other interesting things happening around the area.  There is one short, one medium and one long walk every day for the whole of September.  Further info on www.guildfordwalkfest.co.uk

This guided, 5-mile walk is free, but you will need to pay for your bus fare or meet us at Gomshall Railway station car park for free parking at 12noon.

Come by bus to Guildford or use one of Guildford’s car parks or use one of the Park and Ride services to access. Meet us at Guildford Bus Station, GU3 3RN, Bay 9, Compass Bus No 32 for an 11.15am prompt start.

The event is free and open to all walkers.  Dogs are welcome on the walk.
