EXPLORING WOKING

SUNDAY 3 OCTOBER 2021

Start time: 10.30am for prompt 11am start

Finish time: 1pm

Although not within the Surrey Hills AONB, we have quite a number of Woking based members and the area has some beautiful rural areas to explore, just a stone’s throw from the town centre. Join our Chairman and Vice President on this flat two hour gentle walk.

Woking these days is probably best known for its high rise towers and modern architecture, but it is also a place that values its green belt and rural assets. Much work has been done by the Council and others to improve paths along the Basingstoke canal and surrounding woodland. During the walk we will explore the recently renovated Peace Garden, which was previously a Muslim Military Cemetery, created in 1917. We will also learn about local science fiction writer, HG Wells, who used nearby Horsell Common as the landing place for the Martians in “War of the Worlds”

The walk is relatively easy and flat with no stiles. Dogs on leads are welcome.

Woking has many restaurants and cafes for those who wish to continue with their exploration of the area after the walk.

The event is free but must be booked using the brown button below.
